As was stated by the U.S. Deputy Secretary of Defense, Robert Work, the Pentagon is concerned about statements made by Russian President Vladimir Putin regarding threats against Russia due to the placement of U.S. ABM systems, The Wall Street Journal reports.

US to unveil European missile defense system
The US’s European missile defense system will be officially declared operational on Thursday, despite Russia’s objections, Reuters reported.
The announcement will come almost a decade after Washington first proposed such a system.
US and NATO officials will gather in Deveselu, Romania for the inauguration of the missile defense site, the construction of which was finished in 2015.

Ukraine and Romania sign agreement on visa-free travel
The Foreign Ministry’s press service reported that the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and Romania, Pavlo Klimkin and Lazăr Comănescu signed an agreement on the 6th of May on the waiver of fees for the registration of Romanian, long-term stay (national) visas for Ukrainians.

Moldova and the US begin joint military exercises
Moldova and the US began joint military exercises on May 3rd. As Radio Svoboda reported, the exercises, codenamed Dragon Pioneer 2016, will last more than two weeks, and will involve more than 200 US soldiers.

US sends fifth generation fighter to Romania for Black Sea exercises
The US Air Force has sent F-22 Raptors from the UK to Romania to participate in exercises in the Black Sea region, Reuters reported.
Two of the 5th generation stealth fighters and one KC-135 tanker were sent to the Mihail Kogălniceanu Airbase in Romania in order to participate in exercises to support the eastern NATO member states.
