  • Turkey tells Syrian opposition to prepare for transfer to Idlib

    The opposition Free Syrian Army (FSA) was told by Turkey to prepare for the possible movement of a large contingent of fighters into Syria’s Idlib province,  reported the pro-government Turkish newspaper Yeni Safak on Monday.

  • Russia convenes UN Security Council session on Syria

    Russia has asked that an open session of the UN Security Council be held in order to discus the results of the summit between Russia, Iran and Turkey, Interfax reports, citing Russia’s permanent representative to the UN.

  • Turkey deploys armored vehicles to the border with Syria

    The Turkish military command deployed armored vehicles to the Hatay Province bordering Syria, the Anadolu News Agency reported.

    The agency reported that the column of armored vehicles has arrived in the Hass District. Now the vehicles will be distributed among the military units stationed on the border.

    The Hatay Province borders with the Idlib Province, which is the last major stronghold of the opponents of the country’s president Bashar Assad in Syria.

  • Media: Germany considers an attack on Syria

    The German Defense Ministry is considering a possibility to participate in the United States, Britain and France attacks on Syria in case of chemical weapons use there, wrote the tabloid Bild on Monday, September 10.

    At a UN international media seminar, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova confirmed that Russia intends to continue the "fight against terrorism in Syria". According to her, Russia’s own security is at stake.

  • Putin signs decree allowing Russian intelligence agencies to recruit private spies

    Russian President Vldaimir Putin has signed a decree allowing Russian intelligence to have a new type of secret service agents - "foreign intelligence officers of the Russian Federation that are not part of the staff", but are involved in performing intelligence missions, the newspaper Vedomosti reports.
