Great Britain and Ukraine to strengthen military cooperation

After a meeting with British Secretary of State for Defense Gavin Williamson, in Odessa on Friday, December 21st, the Ukrainian Minister of Defense Stepan Poltorak stated that in January, a group of servicemen from the British Navy will arrive in Ukraine to determine the necessary assistance to the Ukrainian military.

“Already in January, a group of British naval forces will arrive in Ukraine to organize interaction, plan joint exercises, as well as determine the necessary material and technical assistance to the Ukrainian Armed Forces, specifically the Naval forces,” said Poltorak.

According to him, the two sides also considered the possibility of speeding up cooperation in a variety of areas, starting with expanding the training format of the Orbital program, reaching a new level of training and ending with the expansion of military-technical cooperation.

Poltorak also announced an agreement on the creation of the “Office for Friends of Ukraine,” to coordinate joint actions to assist the reform of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Navy, and increasing the combat capabilities of the Ukrainian Navy.
