Chinese ambassador says China is ready to create a free-trade area with Ukraine

The Ambassador of the People's Republic of China, Du Wei said that his country is ready to consider the possibility of creating a free trade area or FTA with Ukraine if the relevant proposal is received, UNIAN reports.

Speaking about the possibility of an FTA with Ukraine, Du Wei noted that relations with other countries are an important component of China’s development strategy.

"The meeting of the subcommittee on trade and economic cooperation within the framework of the intergovernmental commission was held way back in 2015. Our heads of subcommittees at the working level unofficially discussed this issue. I believe that after this, both Ukrainian and Chinese experts began studying, analyzing and making conclusions on this cooperation," the Ambassador said.

He added that if Ukraine has any suggestions, China is ready to hear them.

On a related note, the EBRD says an FTA with China would be beneficial for Ukraine.
