France demands that Ukrainian authority be restored in Crimea

France will not change its position regarding the need to restore Ukrainian authority in Crimea and Kiev's control over the entire Ukrainian-Russian border. The Permanent Representative of France to the UN, Francois Delattre, said this at a formal meeting of the UN Security Council on the situation in Ukraine, which took place on Thursday night in New York.

"Settling the crisis in the east of Ukraine is the primary goal for France. Together with Germany, we will continue to mediate the crisis between Ukraine and Russia in order to achieve progress in the implementation of the Minsk Agreements," the Ambassador of France said at the meeting of the UN Security Council.

"Our goal is to take back control of Ukraine, across the internationally recognized border, as well as to restore Ukrainian authority in Crimea. In this regard, our position, which is consistent with international law, will not change," Delattre added.

The meeting was held in connection with the deterioration of the situation in the Donbas region and Russia's failure to implement the Minsk Agreements, the official website of Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko stated.

After Russia's annexation of Crimea, and since the beginning of the armed conflict in the Donbas region, the organization has met several times to discuss the situation in Ukraine.
