G7 Ambassadors make statement in support of Ukrainian government's fight against corruption

The G7 Ambassadors have issued a statement in support of the basic objectives and state policy principles set forth by the Ukrainian Cabinet of Ministers.

The statement was posted on the website of the Japanese Embassy in Ukraine.

“Ambassadors have welcomed the announcement made by the Cabinet of Ministers regarding the main objectives and principles of the state policy, particularly those concerning zero tolerance with regard to political interference and corruption,” the statement said.

At the same time, the Ambassadors stressed that words must be backed up by deeds.

“However, we believe that there is still much to be done to implement these principles.  Words must be translated into concrete actions,” they said.

The Ambassadors expressed their support for Ukraine’s reform efforts and their readiness to work together for the benefit of the Ukrainian people.

They also called for the unity of all the political institutions of Ukraine.

“The G7 Ambassadors will continue to support a strong, united government focused on the implementation of reforms.  We call on all the political institutions of Ukraine to work together.  These include the government, the Presidential Administration and the Verkhovna Rada,” the Ambassadors stated.

A previous statement was made by the European Union (EU) concerning Ukraine, in which they stated their expectation to see tangible results of the Ukrainian reforms, in particular with regard to the fight against corruption.
