G7 may strengthen sanctions against Russia

During a summit in Japan this week, leaders of the G7 decided not only to extend the sanctions against Russia but also to strengthen them in case of aggravation or necessity. The President of Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko, made this statement in an interview with Inter TV channel.

The head of the state noted that he is grateful to Ukraine’s partners for such a steadfast attitude. Poroshenko also emphasized the important role that the world's leaders played in securing Ukrainian pilot Nadiya Savchenko’s freedom.

"I am convinced that the whole world helped us. Without sanctions, we would have nothing. Without the steadfast position of the leaders of the European countries, the USA, Japan and Australia, nothing would have happened. Without the strong position and the resolutions of the European Parliament, nothing would have happened either."

It was earlier reported at the start of the recent summit in Japan that the G7 leaders would support preservation of sanctions against Russia.
