Israel strikes Assad's Army in Syria

Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) attacked the positions of Syrian government troops in response to stray shells that tore up the Israeli-controlled Golan Heights, Haaretz newspaper reports. Israel condemned the shelling incident as unacceptable and a violation of the country’s sovereignty.

The Israeli military released a statement saying, “The Israeli Defense Forces will never allow harm to the sovereignty of Israel and its inhabitants. It holds Syria responsible for this incident.”

In response to the shelling, the Israeli Air Force attacked Syrian tanks and the positions from which the shelling took place. There are no Israeli casualties.

Earlier, the IDF recorded ten artillery shell explosions on the Israeli side of the Golan Heights. All of them were fired from Syrian territory.

Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman said, “Israel will not remain idle during the violations of our sovereignty and the undermining of our security, even if we are talking about stray shells that hit Israeli territory during the Assad’s battles with the rebels. From our point of view, the army of Assad is responsible for everything that is happening in Syria."
