Kyiv to supplement its claim against Russia at the International Court of Justice

Ukraine intends to supplement its claim to the International Court of Justice with new facts regarding human rights violations by Russia, as was stated by Ukrainian Foreign Minister, Pavlo Klimkin, Interfax-Ukraine reported.

"We will present these facts to Europe, but the important thing is that they will be used in Court as evidence. We are constructing a whole set of facts and we will be able to supplement it. We may bring new evidence prior to the hearings," Klimkin said.

He added that, for example, "There were several people added to the Karpyuk and Klich cases, now we are able to extend that list. That is, we are going to work on this (supplement) all the time," Klimkin explained.

According to the Minister, this work is first aimed at strengthening sanctions against the Russian Federation. "Second, it works as a supplement to our claim. We should show that these violations continue and we are collecting this data,” the Foreign Minister explained.

On 16 January 2017, Ukraine filed a lawsuit with the International Court of Justice against Russia for the latter's alleged role in terrorist acts and discrimination during its aggression against Ukraine. The lawsuit was filed as part of the International Convention for the Suppression of the Financing of Terrorism and the International Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Racial Discrimination.
