Media: Armed skirmish broke out between Russians and Ukrainians across Crimean border

An armed clash between Russian and Ukrainian parties happened on the Crimean border on Saturday evening. This was reported by Rosbalt with reference to an informed source in the Crimea. According to unconfirmed data, no casualties have been reported.

According to the source, the clash occurred as a result of a subversive group’s breakthrough form Ukraine’s Kherson region. After the shooting, the area was blocked off by Russian security forces, and security measures were implemented across Crimea.

The police’s “wanted” lists appeared on social networking sites after the incident. These lists also stated that the police were searching for gunmen in camouflage uniforms who had entered Crimea from Ukraine. The head office of the Crimean Ministry of Internal Affairs refused to confirm this information.

The source also suggested that the silence of Russian and Ukrainian authorities was due to the fact that they were studying the incident. According to him, the conflict came as a surprise not only to Russia, but also to Kiev who understands that the clash could be a catalyst for an escalation in the conflict.

There were previous reports detailing the closure of the border crossing point for people coming from Kherson into Crimea.

In addition, the Internet is off in the north of Crimea and the ATMs are not operational either.

On Wednesday, the Russian FSB reported that it had thwarted a terrorist attack in the Crimea, accusing Ukrainian intelligence of being involved in the plot.
