Russian Minister of Defense: Russia formed four battalions of military police in de-escalation zones in Syria

Four military police battalions have been formed in Syria to carry out tasks in the de-escalation zones, according to the Russian Defense Minister, Sergey Shoygu, as reported by the Russian Defense Ministry’s press service.

"Four battalions of military police have been formed. They are currently carrying out tasks in the security belts of the de-escalation zones in the Syrian Arab Republic," Shoygu said at the Russian Defense Ministry meeting.

According to him, the battalions have been formed as part of the Southern Military District. Shoygu called the formation of a combined-arms army in this district in March 2017 as one of the important steps to reinforce the area.

"I would note that all ongoing organizational arrangements are synchronized with the supply of modern weapons and military equipment. Over the past six months, the troops of the Southern Military District received more than 600 items of weapons and military equipment," the head of the Russian Defense Ministry noted.
