Turchynov: Ukrainian troops have improved their position in the Svitlodarsk Bulge

Ukrainian troops stopped the separatists’ offensive in the Svitlodarsk Bulge and even advanced in the course of the counterattack, as stated by Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov, who personally visited the forefront of the 54th Brigade.

"A kind of record was established in the quantity of mines and mortar shells fired at our positions situated in the Svitlodarsk Bulge: more than 800 over these 24 hours," the Secretary said.

He noted, "Despite the constant attacks and attempts to break through our defense, Ukrainian soldiers fulfilled their duty courageously and professionally, having stopped the enemy and inflicted heavy losses."

Turchynov also added that the Ukrainian military, while counterattacking, moved forward and took new positions, "which gave them an additional advantage over the enemy in this sector of defense."

The battle in the Svitlodarsk arc area has not subsided for several days. There are dozens of wounded and dead. The parties blame each other for the attacks.

Volunteer Sergey Yermakov wrote an appeal to the President of Ukraine and the Minister of Defense, accusing them of the fact that there are no cars available at the front line to evacuate the wounded.
