Ukraine discloses all of its correspondence with Moscow since the start of the conflict

The Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs handed over to the International Court of Justice in the Hague all of the diplomatic correspondence with Russia which there has been since the start of the conflict in Eastern Ukraine. Evropeyskaya Pravda reported on this with reference to litigator David Zionts of Covington & Burling LLP, Kyiv’s representative at the international court.

According to him, the reason for such a decision is “false accusations from the Russian Federation that Kyiv did not provide Moscow with any specific claims”.

“Mr Rogachev (Russia’s representative at the Hague) says that Ukraine did not provide Russia with specific cases of violations. He says that every document only contained general matters. However, he did not presented to the court all the documents containing diplomatic correspondence,” Zionts emphasized.

“We did not intend to swamp the court with so many documents. But in response to the accusations, we will hand over to the court all other notes today,” he announced.

The hearings of the case between Ukraine and Russia at the Hague began on the 6th of March. Kyiv is accusing Moscow of violating two international conventions – the Terrorism Financing Convention and the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination.
