Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs: there was no strong response by the world community to Russia’s aggression on Georgia

Due to the lack of tough and consolidated response by the world community to the “crimes of the Kremlin in Georgia,” a fifth of its country is still under “occupation,” as indicated in a statement issued by the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, UNIAN reports.

On the ninth anniversary of “armed aggression of Russia against Georgia,” which killed hundreds of people and left tens of thousands homeless, Ukraine confirms its respect for the state sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia within its internationally recognized borders and strongly condemns the actions of the Russian Federation as an “aggressor state.”

“We have to state that specifically due to the lack of timely, tough, and consolidated reaction by the world community to the crimes of the Kremlin in Georgia, one fifth of its sovereign territory is still under occupation and Russia continues its aggressive policy against other European states,” the statement reads.

“In Ukraine the international community is called upon to finally realize the depth of the danger that Russia's aggressive policy bears to global security and to toughen joint efforts aimed at restoring the territorial integrity and sovereignty of states that have been victims of Russian aggression,” stressed the Ukrainian foreign policy establishment.
