US Expands Sanctions against Russia

The US expanded sanctions against Russia in connection with recent events in eastern Ukraine. This was stated on the website of the US Treasury. Sanctions were imposed against individuals (including Ukranian citizens) and institutions alike.

The sanctions list includes the ministers that worked with former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych, former Science and Education Minister Dmytro Tabachnik and Russian politician Vitaliy Zakharchenko. Sanctions were also imposed on Vladislav Dinega, one of the leaders of the so-called Luhansk People’s Republic. In total, the latest round of sanctions includes 12 new names.

New sanctions have been introduced against a number of Crimean enterprises such as the Massandra Company, the largest manufacturer of wine in Crimea, the Yalta Film Studio, the Azov Distillery Plant, the Sevastopol Marine Bank and the Oreanda Resort. In addition, sanctions were placed on the Crimean sparkling wine factory New World, the state enterprise Magarach and the airline Universal-Avia, which are all also located in Crimea.

A significant number of Russian companies are also included in the list.
