Poland ready to tighten sanctions against Russia

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Poland expressed their readiness to tighten the sanctions against Moscow if it does not demonstrate effective steps to return the annexed territories to Ukraine.

During the consultations, the heads of treaty and law departments of the Ukrainian and Polish Foreign Ministries discussed the legal consequences of the annexation of the Crimea, the Embassy of Ukraine to Poland stated on Facebook. The Foreign Ministry of Poland confirmed its unchanged position in support of territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine within internationally recognized borders.

Moreover, Foreign Ministries of both countries agreed that it was necessary to maintain sanctions and that if Russia does not take any active steps to free the annexed territories, Poland and Ukraine would tighten sanctions against the Russian Federation that were imposed by the international community because of Russia’s unlawful actions in the Crimea and the East of Ukraine.

Both parties stressed that sanctions should remain in force until the full restoration of Ukraine’s territorial integrity.

Poland became the first country with which the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry held bilateral consultations on legal consequences of the Crimea’s annexation, the Ukrainian Embassy noted.
