Poroshenko and Volker discuss Donbas situation

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko and the U.S. Special Representative for Ukraine Kurt Volker discussed the latest developments in the Donbas and prospects for the deployment of a multinational UN peacekeeping mission.

The meeting was held on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly’s 73rd session, informs the press service of the Ukrainian President.

The interlocutors also stressed the need for immediate release of all Ukrainian political prisoners detained in Russia.

"Special attention was paid to Ukraine and the United States cooperation in the air defense security sphere, as well as interaction regarding further reforms implementation in our state," said the report.

Kurt Volker also informed the President of Ukraine about the strengthening of the sanctions pressure against the Russian Federation, in particular, the introduction of 12 more Russian companies on the sanctions list.

Peter Poroshenko leads the Ukrainian delegation at the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly. In addition to the keynote speech from the UN rostrum on September 26, Poroshenko during the General Assembly will hold a series of bilateral meetings between the leaders of European countries, African and Asian countries, other high-ranking officials and the Ukrainian diaspora.

Poroshenko will participate in a high-level conference on peacekeeping.
