Poroshenko invites newly elected president of India to visit Ukraine

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and newly elected President of India Ram Nath Covind discussed the prospect of intensifying the political dialogue between their two countries in a telephone conversation.

"The leaders of the two countries noted their mutual willingness to significantly activate the political dialogue between Ukraine and the Republic of India at all levels," the press office of the Ukrainian Head of State reported after the conversation.

The President’s press service paid special attention to the status and prospects for development of the commercial and economic components of bilateral cooperation, noting an increase in trade between the two countries by more than 52% following the results of the first half of 2017.

Poroshenko invited the President of India to pay an official visit to Ukraine. The invitation was gratefully accepted.

In addition, the President of Ukraine congratulated the Indian leader on his election to the post of Head of State and conveyed congratulations to the people of India on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of India's independence (which was observed on August 15).

Ram Nath Covind (from the Indian National People's Party) was elected president of India in July (when he earned more than 65% of the vote). He became the 14th president of the country since 1950, when the presidential post was introduced in India.
