Ukrainian President Poroshenko plans to visit Germany

The President of Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko could be visiting Germany before the second round of elections, Reported LB.ua news outlet in the article, “Elections in Ukraine: The Stakes and the Reactions around the World”.

“According to the article posted to LB.ua, Poroshenko’s visit to Berlin is being planned as a manifestation of Germany’s support for his election campaign.”

The media agency recalled that Poroshenko and Merkel had spoken on the phone immediately following the first round of elections on April 1 and that the German chancellor had congratulated Poroshenko on reaching the second round of elections.

Petro Poroshenko and Angela Merkel’s close working relationship has long been established. “Take my word for it, no other leader out there speaks as frequently with the German chancellor as our President. So, the personal contact is there – and it’s very close”, the Ukrainian Ambassador to Germany Andriy Melnyk said in the interview to LB.ua.

Thanks to this contact, Merkel was able to visit Kyiv right before the onset of the season of political turbulence, before the beginning of the November 1, 2018 presidential campaign. The incumbent President’s campaign staff interpreted the action as a signal of support.
