Putin promises that Crimea will experience growth in the future

During a teleconference with universities, Russian President Vladimir Putin has said that "the situation around the Crimea is not dramatic," and that the peninsula will experience growth in a variety of areas in the future.

"To date I do not think that the situation around the Crimea has been dramatic; on the contrary, I am confident that everything will gradually stabilize," the Russian agency TASS quoted Putin as saying.

As Interfax reports, the Russian president noted that "after solving a number of infrastructure issues and problems," the development of the Crimea "will only gain momentum".

"In the social sphere, and in the spheres of science and education, and in the sphere of the development of production in a variety of areas," Putin said.

On Thursday, January 25, the Russian government increased funding for work under the Federal Target Program for the Development of Crimea by 11.77 billion rubles ($209 million). This data was published in a revised document regarding the target program published on the Russia’s official internet portal for legal information.

In 2018, the Kremlin-controlled government of Crimea announced that they expect 60 billion rubles ($1.07 billion) in funding for the Russian target program named Social and Economic Development of the Crimea and Sevastopol through 2020.
