Russia detained Ukrainian fishermen in the Azov Sea

Russian border guards detained a small fishing boat in the Sea of Azov with two fishermen who, according to the Russian authorities, did not have proper documents, Interfax reported, referencing a statement by Russia’s Federal Security Border Service for Krasnodar Krai.

The Ukrainians were allegedly fishing for endangered sturgeon. The fishermen and their vessel were taken to the Russian port city of Yeysk.

On the morning of May 10, the fishermen went out to sea from a recreation center located on the Berdyansk spit. However, after one day, they did not return home. Ukrainian rescuers began a search operation for the missing fishermen in Berdyansk waters on May 11.
