Russian citizen detained in Spain at US request

Spanish police arrested a Russian citizen at the request of the United States, reports TASS news agency, citing the Russian Embassy in Madrid.

According to the embassy, the police detained a man on September 20 at the Valencia airport at the request of the United States. The Russian citizen was arrested, and after that, an employee of the Russian Consulate General in Barcelona visited him. A local lawyer is involved in the case. The diplomatic mission added that they are carefully following developments in the situation.

Earlier, Las Provincias newspaper reported about the detention of Russian citizen Alexander K. at the airport of Valencia, who arrived in Spain with his wife and seven-year-old son. The man was detained at the request of the FBI. According to the newspaper, the United States request for the extradition of a Russian for his alleged involvement in the "million-dollar fraud," which he allegedly committed through the Internet using forged documents.

On September 5 the Director of JSC United Engine Corporation Aleksandr Korshunov was detained in Italy. He is suspected of stealing technology, which affected the American company General Electric. The Russian Foreign Ministry sent diplomats to help the detainee and to provide him legal support. Korshunov's arrest is based on an international warrant issued by the United States.
