Russian press in Davos asks Poroshenko about 'law on war'

On January 24 at the World Economic Forum in Swiss Davos, a Russian journalist provoked Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko.

A journalist wearing a Vyshyvanka (a traditional Ukrainian embroidered shirt) without distinguishing marks asked Poroshenko in Russian: “Why did you adopt the law on war?”

The Ukrainian president reacted to her embroidered shirt and advised her to “take off the Vyshyvanka”. He also said that he will respond to the question if it is asked in the Ukrainian language. The journalist remarked that the Ukrainian president “understands Russian perfectly well”, TSN reports.

“I understand English too, and another. But I respond to questions in Ukrainian,” Poroshenko replied.

The president’s press secretary Svyatoslav Tsegolko wrote on Facebook that after this provocation, the forum organizers banned the Russian journalist from being in the congress center during official events with Poroshenko’s involvement.
“The organizers of the World Economic Forum interpreted the actions of the Russian press as provocation and deprived the participants of yesterday’s incident of the right to be in the congress center during the Ukrainian president’s official events,” the post states.
