Serbian Foreign Ministry recalls Ambassador from Kyiv

Serbian Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic recalled Serbian Ambassador to Ukraine Rade Bulatovich for consultations.

The Minister plans to discuss with the Ambassador current issues concerning relations with Ukraine and “further measures” related to them.

The Serbian Foreign Ministry emphasizes that Serbia has repeatedly stated its support for the territorial integrity of Ukraine, which was also confirmed during Serbia’s chairmanship in the OSCE.

“Serbia has taken a number of concrete steps to prosecute Serbian citizens fighting abroad, including Ukraine, which demonstrated commitment to their international legal obligations,” the Ministry said.

Minister Dacic also stated that Serbia is well aware that Ukrainian mercenaries participated in crimes committed by Croatian forces against the Serbian people in Croatia, “which Ukraine, unlike Serbia, has never condemned.”

The ministry asserts that Serbia is still committed to establishing good relations with Ukraine on the principles of mutual respect.

Earlier, the publication Balkan Insight published a rather severe interview with the Ukrainian Ambassador to Serbia Aleksandr Aleksandrovich, in which he stated that Russia is using Serbia to destabilize the Western Balkans, and that the country is a tool for the destruction of Europe.

The very next day, the Serbian Ministry of Foreign Affairs threatened to declare the diplomat persona non grata, and the pro-Russian opposition called for him to be immediately expelled from the country.

In turn, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry summoned the ambassador to Kyiv for consultations, and on Tuesday, November 7, these consultations were finally held.
