US Ambassador explains why Washington suspended assistance to Ukraine

U.S. Charge d'Affaires in Ukraine William Taylor said that the United States is reviewing the budget and therefore funding for approved programs has been suspended, reports UNIAN news agency.

"All I can say is that no decision has been made,” he said.

The diplomat said that there is a revision of the budget, and in particular regarding the foreign aid. Taylor explained that when the review of the budget takes place funding for some programs gets suspended.

"But there is no decision yet. I hope decision will be made soon," Taylor said.

At the same time, Politico, citing a high-ranking official from the U.S. Department of Defense, reported that The Pentagon at the request of the White House completed an analysis of the amount of military aid to Ukraine and came to conclusion that it needs to continue.

According to the official, the results of the analysis were reported to the White House.

Politico previously reported that Donald Trump asked his national security team to review the assistance program known as the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative.
