US: Russians under sanctions should not be allowed to PACE

During the press conference in Kyiv, United States Chargé d’Affaires to Ukraine William said that the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe should not allow the Russian delegation to include Russians who fell under US and EU sanctions, reports Hromadske TV channel.

The politician recalled that the United States is not a member of the Council of Europe but noted that Washington opposed the decision to return Russia to this organization. He also spoke about Kyiv's efforts to prevent Russia's return to PACE.

"We were amazed by the efforts of the Ukrainian team in PACE, to prevent Russia from returning to this organization," Taylor said.

On Tuesday, June 25, PACE adopted a resolution allowing Russia to return to the organization. One hundred eighteen deputies voted for the adoption of the document. Sixty-two voted against, and ten abstained.

Russia has not participated in the PACE since April 2014, after it was deprived of the right to vote. Russia has not  paid its membership fee in PACE since 2017.
