Future US ambassador to Russia: Relations with Russia is one of the major challenges for the US

At the U.S. Senate hearings, which were held to review his appointment as new U.S. Ambassador to Russia, the former Governor of Utah, Republican Jon Huntsman Jr., who was nominated by the President of the United States Donald Trump, called the relations with Russia “among the most consequential and complex foreign policy challenges” the US faces.

He noted that Russia continues to threaten security and stability in Europe, violating the sovereignty of neighboring countries. At the same time, in his opinion, the U.S. needs to build relations with Russia as with a nuclear power and a permanent member of the UN Security Council on a number of global issues.

Huntsman also added that Moscow "undoubtedly interfered" in the presidential elections in the U.S. in 2016, and stressed that he was ready to raise this issue with Russian authorities.
