Hungary promises to continue blocking Ukraine-NATO commission
Hungary will continue blocking the NATO-Ukraine Ministerial Commission, stated Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto during a meeting with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin on the sidelines of the meeting of EU foreign ministers in Luxembourg, reports DW.
Szijjarto said that Ukraine didn’t make any progress on the law on education and didn’t implement the recommendations of the Venice Commission. The Hungarian Foreign Minister also expressed dissatisfaction with the petition to regulate the status of Ukrainian citizens with dual or more EU citizenship, as well as the inclusion of a number of Hungarian citizens, including Szijjarto himself, on the Myrotvorets website.
During the negotiations, the parties noted that even if the conflict hasn’t been resolved, significant progress has been made. “We need to find a way to meet on common ground with Hungary even if this is a difficult way,” Klimkin concluded. Szijjarto would also like to “strengthen and improve the bilateral relations.”
After his meeting with Szijjarto in Luxembourg, Klimkin stated that Hungary agreed to change the name of the position of the “authorized minister for Transcarpathia”. The minister also announced a comprehensive consular consultation with Budapest.
