Korean ambassador suggests creating a free economic zone in the Odessa region

Korea has formulated a cooperation strategy with Ukraine which will allow increasing Ukraine's GDP to 10% over the next 10 years, said Korean ambassador Lee Yang-Goo at the tenth National Expert Forum in Odessa organized by the Gorshenin Institute.

"We have developed a master plan for cooperation between Ukraine and Korea. In accordance with this plan, Ukraine can increase its GDP growth rate to 10% in the next 10 years. International organizations proposed various scenarios for this. This will come as a result of attracting investments,” said Lee.

He also proposed to create a free economic logistic zone in the Odessa region to realize the potential of regional development. He highlighted the importance of valuing human capital, implementing innovations and working hard. The Korean Ambassador emphasized the importance of spiritual development, support and strengthening of Ukrainian identity.

“We see a new Ukrainian person. This person works hard, he is competent,” said Lee Yang-goo. He likened this transformation to his own experience in Korea when the program "New Village" gave rise to the development of the Korean economy.

Lee Yang-Goo has been Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Korean Republic to Ukraine since March 2016. Previously, he worked at the Korean Ministry of Human Resources, as Consul-General of Korea in Russia, Kazakhstan, at the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in France and at the Korean Consulate in the United States. In 2016, Lee Yang-Goo suggested that the authorities of the Ukrainian cities of Odessa, Kharkiv, and Lviv adopt Korean experience for the urban development.
