Kremlin: Russia’s assistance to separatist republics in eastern Ukraine will continue

Russia has promised to continue providing assistance to residents of the Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics, as stated by Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary of the Russian President.

In response to information that Russia intends to abandon the humanitarian support of the Donbas in favor of the Crimea and Kaliningrad, Peskov said that Russia would not do this.

"Of course, no one will abandon in a difficult situation the inhabitants of the unrecognized republics of the DPR (Donetsk People’s Republic) and LPR (Luhansk People’s Republic) who have been rejected by their country," he told reporters.

He explained that Russia did not completely exclude from the budget for next year the funds for humanitarian assistance to the separatist-held territories of the Donbas. According to him, the funds had simply been redistributed.

Earlier information appeared in the media stating that Russia could abandon the "humanitarian support for separate territories."
