Kremlin: Turkey may purchase Su-35 and Su-57 fighter jets from Russia

There is a high probability that Turkey will be interested in the Russian combat aircraft of the new generation, but it will depend on many factors, reports RIA Novosti citing Russian Deputy Prime Minister Yury Borisov.

The Deputy Prime Minister did not rule out that Turkey would turn to Russia in the future for the purchase of modern warplanes, but this will depend on further relations between Ankara and Washington. According to him, Turkish officials expressed great interest in the Russian Su-35 and Su-57 fighter jets.

“I think Turkey's choice will be based on many factors. What their relationship with the US will be... Why not? I do not rule out that they can lean towards the Russian combat aviation of the new generation,” he told reporters.

Borisov reminded that at the MAKS-2019 air show the Turkish delegation was very interested in Russian fighter jets, and if they wanted to choose them, no one would be able to stop them. He cited Ankara's purchase of the Russian S-400 missile defense system as an example.

“The interest of the representative delegation was genuine during the MAKS, as you know. It is up to them to choose. They chose the S-400 and defended their right to purchase this modern system, no matter how they were pressured. Perhaps they will make a choice in the direction of our combat aviation, nothing can be ruled out,” he added.

Commenting on the possibility of Turkey's acquisition of new Russian anti-aircraft systems, Borisov said that such a purchase is quite likely, as at the conclusion of the first agreement for the supply of S-400 missile defense systems to Turkey, an option was provided for additional delivery of these systems.

“I think there's a high probability. They have an option, they have the right to take advantage of it,” he said.
