Russia threatens Poland with a ‘tough response’ over the demolition of Soviet monuments

The demolition of monuments to Soviet soldiers in Poland discredits Russia, according to Franz Klinzewitsch, the Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on Defense, RIA Novosti reports.

Klinzewitsch believes that Russia should take tough measures in response to Poland’s decision, in particular, severing economic ties, as well as prohibiting the entry of Polish MP’s and officials involved in adopting this law into the Russian Federation.

“It is necessary to act very strongly here and without any doubt. A tough approach is needed for both MPs and officials at the state level, their entry to our country should be banned,” Klinzewitsch said.

He also spoke in favor retaliatory measures such as the complete severance of Russian-Polish economic ties.

“It is not necessary to be afraid in this situation, all economic ties must be severed,” the Deputy believes.

According to him, Russia is currently importing vehicles, chemicals, foodstuffs, and agricultural raw materials from Poland and the volumes of this import are ‘sensitive to Poland.’

“Poland is engaged in discrediting Russia. It is an outpost of anti-Russian policy and incites hate. In fact, fascism is encouraged. We cannot and should not keep silent,” Klinzewitsch said.

Earlier, Polish President Andrzej Duda signed a law allowing for the demolition of communist monuments. There are more than 50 such monuments in Poland. The law comes into effect three months after it is signed by the President.
