A new ceasefire attempt in the Donbas breaks down on the first day
The “grain ceasefire” in the Donbas was broken on the first day, said Oleksandr Turchynov, the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, on Saturday.
“The firing almost never stopped and the shelling started again. Unfortunately, this was the third or the fourth ceasefire agreement in the last two months. They [the agreements] are constantly being violated by Russian hybrid forces. I do not remember any agreement that they ever observed. These agreements do not last more than half a day when they begin to violate them,” UNIAN agency quotes Turchynov as saying.
The Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine documented a number of shelling incidents this week. According to him, this was the result of the intensive work of the observers of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission.
On June 21, the Trilateral Contact Group for the settlement of the situation in the Donbas agreed to introduce a ceasefire during harvest season, starting June 24. The so-called “grain ceasefire” should have lasted from June 24 to August 31.
On June 23, there were 48 shelling attacks in the Donbas by the DPR (Donetsk People’s Republic) and LPR (Luhansk People’s Republic) separatists. Two Ukrainian soldiers were wounded.
