Russian State Duma announced a bill on patriotic education
Deputies of the State Duma are developing a bill that defines the general principles of “patriotic education,” said United Russia Party member and Deputy Chairman of the Duma's Committee for Security and Anti-Corruption, Anatoly Vyborny. His statement was published on Monday, March 27 on the party's website, Lenta.ru reported.
“My colleagues and I have prepared a draft federal law that should establish uniformity in the patriotic education system throughout the Russian Federation,” the parliamentarian said. He clarified that the document outlined the general tasks and principles of patriotic upbringing and the powers of various departments in this venture, including the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.
The bill suggests that funds for these purposes can be allocated from various sources, including legal entities, the deputy added.
In April last year, the vice speaker of the State Duma of the past sixth convocation, Andrey Isayev said that they planned to draft a “qualitative” law on patriotic upbringing in the lower house of parliament. It was noted that the document could be adopted in 2017.
On January 2, 2016, the Russian government approved a state program on patriotic education for 2016-2020. The coordination functions were assigned to the Federal Agency for Youth Affairs or Rosmolodezh.
