The activities of the Jehovah's Witnesses organization have been suspended in Russia
The activity of the Jehovah's Witnesses organization has been suspended in Russia due to "extremist activities", as reported by Russia's Interfax news agency.
According to information on the website of the Russian Ministry of Justice, the religious organization, the Administrative Center of Jehovah's Witnesses in Russia, was added to the list of public and religious organizations whose activities are suspended due to their "extremist nature", by the order of the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation, as of March 15, 2017.
Earlier, the Russian Justice Ministry filed a lawsuit with the Supreme Court asking to ban Jehovah's Witnesses in the country after violations of Russia's anti-extremist legislation were revealed during an inspection.
According to the report, the suit brought by the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation on recognizing the religious organization as an extremist organization and prohibiting its activities is scheduled for April 5th.
The Jehovah's Witnesses organization regularly comes to the attention of Russian regional authorities across the country, and in some regions its activities have already been prohibited.
