U.S. Congressman proposes creating federal agency to counter Russian and Chinese propaganda
U.S. Congressman Adam Kinzinger proposed to create a new federal agency to fight "Chinese and Russian propaganda," the Washington Examiner reported. His proposed bill would create a holistic government approach to combat the numerous instruments of propaganda used by Russia and China.
"Russia continues to spew its disinformation and false narratives undermining the United States and its interests in places like Ukraine, and causes instability,” Kinzinger believes.
He is confident that the Center for Information Analysis and Response must work against such actions and will analyze the course of the information war and unveil operations against the national security of the United States. "The establishment of the agency will give the USA an opportunity to provide the free flow of truthful information, guaranteeing global stability and preventing conflicts,” the Congressman assured.
The co-author of the bill, Ted Lieu, emphasized that foreign propaganda not only spreads anti-Western sentiments but also manipulates public perception and subverts democracy. "From Ukraine to the South China Sea, foreign disinformation campaigns do more than spread anti-Western sentiments. They manipulate public perception to change the facts on the ground, subvert democracy and undermine U.S. interests. In short, they make the world less safe,” said Lieu.
The bill was reportedly supported by at least 12 Congressmen from both parties. Earlier, the U.S. House of Representatives registered the draft determining the position of the USA regarding the illegal occupation of Crimea by Russia and tightening the sanctions against the country.
