Ukrainian President imposes sanctions against a number of Russian political parties
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko signed a decree introducing sanctions against several Russian organizations. Decree No. 176/2018, which enacted the decision of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine (NSDC), was published on the website of the President. The document came into force on the date of its publication.
Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council emphasized that the sanctions were imposed against 30 legal entities and 14 individuals, resulting in an updated sanctions list, which now includes 1,759 people and 786 organizations and companies.
NSDC imposed sanctions, similar to those that were imposed by the U.S. on June 11, against companies involved, according to U.S. authorities, in Russian intelligence services’ activity in cyberspace. Russian companies Kvant Research Institute, Divetechnoservice, Digital Security Technologies, ERPScan BV, and Embedi Limited came under the Ukrainian sanctions.
In addition, Ukraine imposed sanctions against the Russian Central Elections Commission, political parties and organizations that participated in the preparation and conduct of the elections to the Russian State Duma in the Crimea in 2016.
A list of those involved includes the United Russia Party, the Patriots of Russia Party, the Russian Democratic Party, the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, and the Union of Veterans of Afghanistan, the all-Russia civic organization Combat Brotherhood.
The sanctions were also introduced against Russian military companies, as well as the Luhansk Aircraft Repair Plant, which is located in the territory uncontrolled by Ukrainian authorities.
Among the individuals subject to sanctions are Russian businessmen Arkady and Boris Rotenberg.
The sanctions were also introduced against individuals involved in the preparation and conduct of voting in the elections to the State Duma in Russian-annexed Crimea and against whom sanctions were imposed by the US government.
