President Zelensky meets with families of Ukrainian sailors captured by Russia

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had a meeting with the families of Ukrainian sailors who were detained by Russia last year near the Kerch Strait, reports the press service of the President.

Zelensky stressed that he keeps the situation under control. He also recalled the decision of the UN International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea.

"We are confident that the steps we are taking will allow us to return the sailors soon," the President said.

At the meeting, the question was raised concerning the support of the families of the captured Russian sailors, in particular, providing accommodation for them.

Another question that was raised was about the bill that grants seamen the status of participants of military activities. The President stressed that due to the issues with the current Parliament, the adoption of this document is impossible at the moment. Zelensky is convinced that the bill will be considered by the deputies of the new convocation of Parliament.

On May 25, the UN Tribunal ordered Moscow to release Ukrainian sailors captured near the Kerch Strait last autumn. The court stressed that Russia's position on the events doesn't sound trustworthy.
