Ukraine: Russia exported over one million archaeological artifacts from the Crimea
A representative of the Ministry of Temporarily Occupied Territories and Internally Displaced Persons of Ukraine, Sergey Mokrenyuk stated that Russia exported at least a million archaeological artifacts from the annexed Crimea, since 2014.
“According to minimal estimates, Russia exported at least a million artifacts,” said Mokrenyuk.
According to him, the Ukrainian Ministry is recording such violations and the persons involved may be held accountable, which can include imposing appropriate sanctions, informs the UNIAN news agency.
Earlier, it became known that Ukraine is introducing sanctions against Russian archaeologists who carried out excavations in the annexed Crimea.
The Ukrainian Ministry of Culture announced plans to contact a number of international organizations with a request to respond to the the excavations that Russian archaeologists continue on the territory of the annexed Crimea.
According to the Ukrainian Ministry of Culture, Ukraine is coordinating with UNESCO a monitoring program of cultural property in the annexed Crimea.
After the annexation of the Crimea, Russia appropriated all objects of cultural and historical significance, located on the territory of the Crimea. Kyiv insists that the cultural property belongs to the Ukrainian people and asks UNESCO to put it under their protection.
