Poroshenko: Ukraine will receive lethal weapons from the US in 2018
President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko announced that the much-anticipated defensive lethal weapons from the United States would be supplied to Ukraine in 2018. He posted on Facebook that “Next year, the military budget of our country will be a record 86 billion hryvnia ($3 billion). We will receive lethal defensive weapons from our partners in the United States."
Poroshenko expressed confidence that the Armed Forces of Ukraine would continue to replenish their arsenal with the latest military equipment produced domestically.
Earlier, it was reported that Poroshenko is expecting the beginning of arms shipments from Canada and countries from the European Union. On December 21, the administration of US President Donald Trump approved the first US commercial sale of lethal defensive weapons to Ukraine. In a deal worth $41.5 million, it was noted that this step was largely supported by senior officials of Trump’s National Security Cabinet and the US Congress.
