Czech ex-detective detained in Ukraine

Ukrainian Special Services detained a former police investigator of the Czech Republic’s Office for the Detection of Organized Crime, Ludek Vokal, as reported by Info.cz web-portal with reference to sources.

A Czech diplomat was also allegedly arrested but he was later released and given back his diplomatic passport.

In the Czech Republic, Ludek Vokal was wanted by the General Inspectorate of Security Authorities in connection with suspicions on his activities under the authority of then-Head of the Office Robert Šlachta. Vokal's current activities in the field of security are also under suspicion. He has not stopped them even after his prosecution in the Czech Republic.

Vokal was arrested in Ukraine for his illegal wiretaps. Information about his detention was confirmed by sources in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic.

According to media reports, in the Czech Republic, Vokal was arrested during an operation that revealed abuses of police leadership in 2015 but he was released through Šlachta’s assistance. Vokal was wiretapped when interviewing drug mafia informant Albina Arifovice. The Czech Republic’s Interior Ministry, General Staff and the Defense Ministry were searched.
