Mingarelli: Ukraine has not used €8 billion of EU aid

The head of the EU delegation to Ukraine Hugues Mingarelli stated that Ukraine has not used 8 billion euros of aid that were allocated by the European Union, Ukrainsky Novyny News Agency reports.

"The EU allocates significant amounts of money to Ukraine to support reforms, but this money is not always used in the best way. It is necessary to understand the fact that most of these funds are not used at all for several reasons," he said at the  conference "EU: Future Simple or Future Indefinite", organized by the European Business Association.

According to Mingarelli, the main problem is the lack of qualitative institutional capacity, and it is necessary to "put pressure" on local authorities to speed up the process.

"We calculated that at this moment about 8 billion euros which were provided by the EU were not used... Before asking for additional money, first spend those funds that are available," Mingarelli added.
