Russia condemns the ratification of Ukraine-EU Association Agreement by the Netherlands

Maria Zakharova, official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, commented on the Netherlands’ ratification of the Ukraine—European Union Association Agreement, as reported by the press service of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry said that the agreement on the association of Ukraine and the EU is essentially anti-Russian, and the people of the Netherlands have been cheated by their own leaders.

“However, all of this will have a sad outcome: effectively the Dutch people, who said ‘no’ to the association with Ukraine, have been hoodwinked. Their own leaders did this, once again taking up blatantly Russophobic propaganda as a weapon, which is, incidentally, direct affirmation of the anti-Russian nature of the Ukraine—EU Association Agreement, no matter how much we are assured otherwise,” Zakharova emphasized.

She believes that the Dutch politicians have used controversial methods to achieve such results.

“Quite predictably at the recent debates, everything once again came down to unsubstantiated claims about Moscow’s provocative actions, calls to pan-European solidarity in the face of the mythical ‘Russian threat’ etc.,” said the spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry.

She also added that “Kyiv will continue to ignore the rapid transformation of Ukraine from an industrially developed state into an agricultural resource appendage of the EU”.

On May 30, the Dutch Senate voted to ratify the Ukraine—European Union Association Agreement.

Jean-Claude Juncker, President of the European Commission, said that the process of ratifying the Association Agreement should be completed before the Ukraine—EU summit which is planned for July.
