At NATO summit 'package of consistent support for Ukraine' will be adopted

At the NATO summit in Warsaw, “a package of consistent support for Ukraine” will be adopted.

According to a UNIAN correspondent, this was said by the Director of the NATO Liaison Office in Ukraine, Alexander Vinnikov. He said this while attending the third International Conference entitled ‘Management and the reform of the national security and intelligence services: the best international practice’ in Kiev.

Vinnikov has said that NATO “has supported Ukraine more and more politically and practically over these last years. Our commitment to support the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine is reinforced by the fact that the decision to hold a Ukraine-NATO meeting at the summit in Warsaw was made at the highest level," he said.

According to Vinnikov, the main document to be adopted at the summit will be a “package of consistent support for Ukraine”.

Vinnikov said that NATO aims to discuss two main issues that might be included in this package. “The first is that parliament and civil society should play a democratic and fundamental role in developing the security sector. The second issue is gaining support to build a wide security sector, not just a stronger defense force,” he said. He added that the Security Service of Ukraine plays an in important role in this area.

Vinnikov noted that “we will help our colleagues at the Security Service of Ukraine to implement this important reform process. We will also work together with our colleagues from the EU, their counselling mission. We believe that this dialogue will contribute to real progress”.

He added that in addition to the concept of reform, it is vital to develop a plan for the implementation of it. “We would also like to see the implementation of the formation of supervisory structures, as well as the adoption of the appropriate legislation”. He added that Parliament will play a key role in this process.
