Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada: Ukraine should join NATO as soon as possible

Ukraine should do its utmost to become a full-fledged member of NATO as soon as possible, as was stated by the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada, Andriy Parubiy, during the opening of the morning session of the Ukrainian parliament on Tuesday in Kyiv, Interfax-Ukraine reported.

"Our task is to make every effort to join the free peoples united in the North Atlantic Alliance as soon as possible," Parubiy said.

He recalled that on April 4, 1949, the North Atlantic Alliance was established in Washington and congratulated the NATO countries on this date.

"I believe that we will celebrate this day together as a full-fledged member of NATO," the Chairman said.

Earlier, the Vice-Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration, Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze, said that Ukraine's accession to NATO is a long-term strategic goal, and not an immediate task of the day.
