Poroshenko: A military solution to the de-occupation of Crimea and the Donbas does not exist

The President of Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko, said in an interview with Ukrainian TV channels on Sunday evening that "A military solution of the de-occupation of the Donbas region and Crimea does not exist. I am the President of the peace. The efforts of the Ukrainian diplomats are needed for the effective coordinated actions of Ukraine and those who support us in the world.”

The President was commenting on the previously expressed position concerning the advisability of breaking off diplomatic relations with the Russian Federation. According to the President, Ukrainian diplomacy has already achieved a great success in this position.

Poroshenko also said that the consular officers should continue to work to protect the rights of the Ukrainians in Russia. "Our consular staff should protect the interests of Nadiya Savchenko [Ukrainian pilot sentenced to 22 years in prison by a Russian court]. They should be present at the trials where the Ukrainian patriots are judged in order to protect them.”

The President concluded that military force is not a strategy that they should pursue.
