Poroshenko and Trump discuss escalation of hostilies in the Donbas

The President of Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko, had a telephone conversation with the U.S. President, Donald Trump, during which the parties expressed their concern over the escalation of the hostilities in the Donbas.

This was announced by the Poroshenko's press secretary, Svyatoslav Tsegolko.

"Special attention was paid to the settlement of the situation in the Donbas, and to achieving peace via political and diplomatic means. The parties expressed their deep concern over the escalation of the tensions and the deterioration of the humanitarian situation especially in the area of Avdiivka. They stressed the urgent need to establish a complete cease-fire regime," the message read.

Also, during the conversation, Poroshenko called for the intensification of dialogue at all levels with the new U.S. administration.

"Poroshenko called for the intensification of economic and business ties that will promote the creation of new jobs and the welfare of the citizens of both countries," Tsegolko wrote.

In addition, the sides discussed the strengthening of the strategic partnership between Ukraine and the USA. 

Poroshenko also thanked Trump for his firm support regarding Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. During the call, Poroshenko’s forthcoming visit to Washington was also discussed.,
