Russia sends Admiral Essen frigate equipped with cruise missiles to Syrian coast

Frigate Admiral Essen sailed out of Sevastopol and is on the way to the Syrian shores where it will join the Russian flotilla of warships, RIA Novosti reports citing a source in the Russian military in the Crimea.

The newest frigate of Project 11356, Admiral Essen made voyage around Europe had arrived in the Black Sea port of Sevastopol.  Upon arrival in the port of Sevastopol, the ship's crew had a few days of rest.

According to the source of RIA Novosti, upon reaching its final destination in the Mediterranean, the crew of Admiral Essen will have to work on joint navigation with other ships in the flotilla.

"The crew will conduct numerous training exercises in repelling attacks from air, shores and water. The ship's crew maintains constant military readiness of weapons and equipment", stressed the agency's interlocutor.

The frigate is equipped with Kalibr-NK cruise missiles, Shtyl-1 naval missile system, A-190 100 mm automatic artillery unit, anti-air systems, torpedoes, and may carry a Ka-27 or Ka-31 helicopter.
