Separatists seize electrical facility in Horlivka

Buildings used for electric facilities in Horlivka have been seized by armed men.

Members of the so-called Donetsk People’s Republic stormed the premises of the Ukrainian state-owned power grid company Ukrenergo in Horlivka, which is not controlled by the Ukrainian government, the company’s press service reported.

The capture of the buildings happened on June 30, Korrespondent.net reported.

“According to unofficial information, these actions were carried out as a result of the execution of the occupation authorities’ decree on the nationalization of the energy facilities that belong to Ukraine. On July 1, managers from the Donbass power grid company were not allowed to go to their work places. Orders from the legitimate management of the power grid are being blocked by armed persons on the premises of the power grid company,” Ukrenergo states.

According to the company, technical staff at the middle management level are being forced to write statements about the transition to the employees, telling them to comply with the instructions of the so-called DPR.

“These illegal actions are a flagrant violation of the Minsk Agreements, the Ukrainian legislation and the rights of its citizens. The removal of qualified professionals from the leadership who manage such high-tech processes, such as scheduling and operation of the main networks, and replacing them with people trained to do this job, threatens the stability of the power grid of Ukraine and, above all, the reliability of the power supply to consumers in the occupied territory of the Donbass region,” the company said.
