Serbian President wants to build new gas pipeline with support of Russia

Serbian President Alexander Vučić said that the Republic wants to build a new transit gas pipeline from the border with Bulgaria using Russia’s support.

According to the Head of State, this would allow Belgrade to earn from €100 to €150 million per year.

"On the border with Bulgaria, we would have to build a receiving gas pipeline, either by ourselves or with the help of Russia. That said, at the border we would get 9.8 billion cubic meters of gas. From us [Serbia] branches would go to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Pristina, and Croatia. And we would get a transit fee ", RIA Novosti quotes Vučić as saying.

He noted that this plan could be implemented if Bulgaria successfully built a gas hub.

"When they create this node somewhere on the way to Varna, the gas will go to Sofia and from there to Serbia," Vučić explained.

Prior, Serbia had been counting on the construction of the South Stream gas pipeline, which was to pass through the Black Sea across Bulgaria and deliver gas to the Balkan countries, including Serbia. However, in 2014, Russia curtailed the project because of the opposition of the European Union.
